a bit about me

I have been a student and teacher of yoga for over 20 years working in Europe, the USA and now back in the UK. I am also a registered mental health nurse and have been practicing for over 25 years. I integrate many tools for wellness within my offering.
Iyengar is the foundation of my yoga practice.  When I lived in New York City I managed a teacher training facility teaching new yoga teachers in GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®.
Now back in the UK I teach vinyasa, hatha, restorative and yin style. I am a core teacher at the Bristol School of Yoga and bring with me over two decades of experience in yoga, teaching and psychiatry. I have helped many people with different stories and am inspired by others taking a leap of faith towards transformation.
I am a Senior Yoga Teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance Professionals, a registered mental health nurse with the Nursing and midwifery Council and an EMDR Therapist.

my journey

During my nurse training in Bristol I started to dance. A
fellow student took me to a class on Jacob’s Wells Road and although she never returned I never looked back. A whole new world was opened up – the world of my physical body. Having hated sports at school I had written off my physical self as something to complain about – ‘my this is too that’, ‘if only I was a bit more XZY’. Having found a new relationship with my body I moved to Holland to embark on a crazy journey into the world of experimental dance that in turn led me to the discipline of ballet.
Yoga had always been a passion predating my dance training and once I decided to stop dancing it was a natural progression to take my yoga teaching further. Living with my husband in New York City I ran a teacher training facility and trained other teachers.
In order to support my studies abroad I always returned to England to work as a nurse. While all my friends were off skiing in the alps I was hard at work in the hospital. I may have felt sorry for myself at the time but now I realise this experience was invaluable. Having returned to England from New York with my husband, the hard work has paid off. I have been able to develop my passion in yoga, take further education, and have re-discovered my interest in how trauma affects us.

my outlook

The experience of life comes in many forms – the body, the emotions, the perceptions and thoughts. Understanding, creating story from these experiences is a strong human driver; accepting them for what they are can be harder. I do not promote anything that is esoteric or alienating and believe anyone can find a journey into their whole selves often using the gateway of the body. My values include integrity, honesty and discipline. I pride myself on being present, for plain speaking and celebrating achievements together.
